The world-famous Bulgarian rose oil will be registered as a geographical name with the EU institutions by the end of 2008.
The news was reported by the Chair of the Bulgarian National Association for Ether Oils, Perfumery, and Cosmetics Evgeniy Ivanov on the Cosmetics Day. It was marked on Thursday as part of the Plovdiv International Economic Fair.
Ivanov reported that the preparation for the registration of the rose oil had continued two years.
In his words, the name of provenance designates goods whose qualities resulted from special natural factors, and local manufacturing traditions.
A total of seven firms were presented Thursday with the 2007 Bulgarian Rose Awards, which is given based on a number of criteria embracing  annual trade, total exports, new technical equipment, new products, raw products, patents, and number of employed young specialists.
Three plants from the Plovdiv region were among the awarded - Alen Mak Plovdiv for its new products and intellectual property, Bulgarska Roza Karlovo - for largest trade volume and development of new markets, and Solvex - for new technical equipment.
